Atelier Gotscha
Master of Historical MetalworkProfessional Restoration
Preserving historical objects requires knowledge, precision and respect for the original piece. Red Lancer works closely with Gotscha Lagidse of Atelier Gotscha, a highly regarded specialist in the professional restoration of antique arms and related historical objects.
Where restoration is appropriate, the aim is always to preserve the object’s historical integrity while carefully addressing damage, deterioration or earlier interventions. From conservation and minor repairs to more extensive restoration, each piece is approached individually and with respect for its age, construction and history.
Gotscha Lagidse
Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, in 1965, Gotscha Lagidse developed an early fascination with historical arms and traditional metalworking. After working as a metal restorer in Tbilisi, he continued his career in the Netherlands, specialising in the restoration and reconstruction of historical arms and armour.
His work has taken him into museum collections as well as those of private collectors. Among his notable projects is the reconstruction of the armour of Prince Maurits of Nassau for the former Dutch Army Museum, based on the surviving original in Vienna. His craftsmanship encompasses restoration, armour making, goldsmithing and the traditional techniques required to understand how historical objects were originally made.
Since 2013, Lagidse has held the title of Master of the Nederlands Gilde van Goudsmeden.
