Description
A remarkably rare Dutch military flintlock carbine made by Puisuisse of Rotterdam, dating to approximately 1798 during the Batavian Republic.
Around 3,000 rifles were reportedly ordered to equip the chasseurs à pied (light infantry/sharpshooters) of the Batavian Army. Despite that original production, surviving examples appear to be exceptionally scarce. According to the present owner, this is the only example he has been able to trace, making it an especially interesting survivor of the Batavian military period.
The carbine retains its long walnut stock, flintlock mechanism and military furniture, showing the characteristic appearance and honest age expected of a service arm more than two centuries old.
