Description
A finely decorated porcelain cup and saucer dating from the First Empire period, richly embellished with extensive gilding and delicate engraved ornament.
The cup features a painted architectural landscape depicting a prominent domed building or church set within a park-like setting. It has been suggested that the scene may represent Les Invalides in Paris, although this attribution cannot presently be confirmed. The elaborate handle and extensive gold decoration are characteristic of the luxurious decorative taste of the Empire period.
Both cup and saucer survive in superb condition, with the rich gilding retaining much of its original brilliance.
