Description

A fine and unusually long horseman’s flintlock pistol dating from c. 1730–1740, preserved in superb condition.

The pistol features a long steel barrel set into a walnut full stock, with an elegant early flintlock mechanism and extensive brass furniture. The strongly curved grip terminates in a substantial brass pommel, while further brass details include the trigger guard and decorative stock mounts. The pistol is unmarked, and no maker can presently be attributed.

At 46 cm overall, it is an imposing example of an early 18th-century cavalry or horseman’s pistol, retaining an attractive combination of polished steel, aged walnut and brass.
