Description
A fine Dutch Model 1820 officer’s sword, intended for infantry officers and retaining a particularly attractive blue-and-gilt decorated blade. The blade carries elaborate gilt military and ornamental decoration against its original blued ground, giving the sword considerably more presence than the plainer service examples of the type.
The sword has developed a pleasing, untouched patina and appears never to have been cleaned, preserving much of its historical character. It is accompanied by an officer’s sword knot; this may be a later addition and is therefore not necessarily original to the sword.
A well-preserved and highly decorative example of a Dutch infantry officer’s sword from the first half of the 19th century. Provenance : ex Coll. kuipers
