Description

A Dutch Model M1814 No. 2 light cavalry trooper’s sabre, also known as the LC2. The model was issued to Dutch light cavalry units and was also used by troops of the Transport Train and Horse Artillery.

This example is particularly interesting for the “TT” marking on the hilt, indicating Transport Train service. The sabre and scabbard retain matching numbers, an uncommon feature on surviving examples, as sabres and scabbards were frequently separated or subsequently mismatched during their service lives.

The sabre comes from the former Rijksmuseum holdings and was released in the 2020 Rijksmuseum sale. Never cleaned after it left the Rijksmuseum.

A strong and unusually complete example of an early 19th-century Dutch cavalry sabre, with particularly desirable markings and provenance.
