Description
A particularly fine Dutch light cavalry officer’s sabre, Model 1813 No. 1, distinguished by its unusually long proportions and exceptionally well-preserved decorated blade.
The curved blade retains approximately 80% of its original blue-and-gilt decoration, with elaborate gilt military and ornamental motifs against the deep blued ground. The officer’s hilt is of stirrup form with a leather-covered grip, accompanied by its steel scabbard with two suspension rings.
Of particular interest is the surviving original leather sword suspension strap, still accompanying the sabre. Together with the strong preservation of the blade decoration, this makes for an especially attractive example of the Dutch M1813 No. 1 officer’s pattern.
Provenance: Ex Jamin Collection, former collection manager of the Dutch Army Museum.
