Description
An imposing French hussar trooper’s sabre, Model 1767, an early pattern associated with the Royal Arms Manufactory at Klingenthal.
This substantial cavalry weapon retains its massive, marked Klingenthal blade, measuring 85 cm, with the characteristic pronounced curvature of the period. The simple brass hilt and leather-covered grip reflect its purpose as a robust service weapon rather than an officer’s dress piece. The sabre is accompanied by its leather scabbard with extensive brass mounts and two suspension rings.
The weapon shows considerable evidence of prolonged service, giving it the character expected of a sabre that saw hard military use during the later 18th century. As an early Klingenthal-manufactured hussar pattern, it represents an important stage in the development of French light cavalry arms before the Revolutionary and Napoleonic periods.
Provenance: Ex Collection E. Sporan.
