Description
A French infantry sabre, Model 1767, dating from the late Ancien Régime period.
The M.1767 was introduced under the French monarchy and remained in service into the Revolutionary era. This example retains its brass hilt and leather-covered scabbard with brass mounts.
The hilt is marked “N5.7.2.3”, an interesting identification marking which may offer scope for further research into the sabre’s original issue or unit association.
A good representative example of an 18th-century French military sidearm from the period immediately preceding the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars.
