Description
A fine French light cavalry sabre for a sous-officer, of a type used during the Napoleonic Wars and subsequent Bourbon Restoration period.
The sabre features an unmarked polished blade and an elegant brass multi-branch hilt with a finely finished fishskin-covered grip, giving the weapon a distinctly higher-quality appearance than standard troop-issued examples. It is accompanied by its original steel scabbard with brass suspension fittings.
This type of sabre is associated with sous-officers serving in French light cavalry formations and was probably carried by a sous-officer of one of the line lancer regiments. A comparable model is documented in Tradition Magazine, No. 169.
The brass mouthpiece of the scabbard is presently missing. At the buyer’s request, a historically correct replacement can be made by Atelier Gotscha, restoring the scabbard’s original configuration while respecting the historical character of the piece.
