Description

A North European smallsword or épée for an infantry officer, with a finely decorated brass hilt, pierced and engraved shell guard, and leather-covered grip.

The straight blade is engraved with floral ornamentation and measures as a convincing fit with the hilt. However, it is possible that the blade is a later replacement, and this should be considered when assessing the sword.

An attractive and well-proportioned officer’s sword retaining a pleasing period appearance.

Provenance: Ex Kuipers Collection.
