Description

A superb French light cavalry officer’s sabre dating from the Consulate period, distinguished by its elegant form and particularly fine Damascus steel blade.

The curved blade displays the characteristic watered pattern of Damascus steel and carries karabelic-style engraved decoration close to the spine. The brass hilt and scabbard retain traces of their original heavy gilding, providing an indication of the considerably richer appearance the sabre would originally have presented.

Complete with its brass scabbard, this is an imposing and unusually luxurious officer’s sabre from the transitional period between the French Revolution and the First Empire.
