Description
An imposing and richly executed Mameluke-style officer’s sabre, of the luxurious type associated with senior and general officers during the early 19th century.
The sabre features a large, strongly curved Solingen blade in the Oriental taste, combined with an elaborately decorated gilt-brass hilt and matching scabbard. The distinctive Mameluke-style grip and sweeping blade reflect the strong influence of Eastern arms on European officers’ swords during the post-Napoleonic period.
Sabres of this prestigious type were carried by high-ranking officers, including during the period of the Ten Days’ Campaign against Belgium in 1831.
The grip scales were professionally restored and cleaned by Atelier Gotscha. Their exterior surfaces had deteriorated considerably and have been carefully restored to their present appearance.
A particularly impressive high-ranking officer’s sabre, combining substantial proportions, elaborate decoration and a fine Solingen blade.
